Born on 19 June 1959 in Kabo, the headquarters of Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, Senator Barau I. Jibrin has devoted his life to the service of Nigeria.
Holds a Bachelor's in Accounting, Master's in Financial Management & Pricing, Master's in Management, an MBA, and a PhD in Corporate Entrepreneurship.
Founded and runs diverse business interests spanning manufacturing, insurance, and construction, after leaving the Kano State Foundation accounting department in 1992.
A frontline founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, the commercial heart of Northern Nigeria.
Elected by the people of Tarauni Federal Constituency to the House of Representatives when Nigeria returned to civil rule. Chaired the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Power.
In recognition of his legislative expertise, President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him to a special committee to review Nigeria's entire budgetary process. Returned to private practice afterward.
Appointed member of Kano State Business Incentive Committee. Served as Chairman of Kano State Investment and Properties Ltd. Served as Commissioner of Science and Technology.
Won election to the Senate representing Kano North Senatorial District on the APC platform. Named Vice Chairman, then elevated to Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream).
Reassigned to chair the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETfund. Also became Secretary of the Northern Senators' Forum — a role he held for five years (2016–2021).
Re-elected for a second term. Appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations — Nigeria's most powerful budget committee — leveraging his accounting background.
